The 2/3-Year-Old Preschool Classroom offers children 2 and 3 years of age a unique beginning of self-development in a warm atmosphere of special understanding, respect, and support. It follows the Montessori philosophy that encourages vocabulary development, independence, and self-confidence for each child. These words reveal the child’s inner needs: "Help me do it alone." {Maria Montessori} In this specially prepared classroom, there is space for movement, individual work, and group activities. The Practical Life area is particularly emphasized, as the activities in this area allow children the chance to develop skills to appropriately care for themselves and their surroundings. Children learn what it means to demonstrate:
Practical Life activities are simple and can be accomplished by each child. They offer repetitive cycles that help the child establish patterns of order, sequencing, and self-esteem—even at an early age. The freedom and guidance in the 2/3 Classroom is a safe and nurturing environment. Through positive daily activities, the young child will gain an appreciation and respect for his or her environment and peers.
